If you're not doing so already, you should start using Google Analytics to analyze the traffic on your website.
What is Google Analytics
Let's start with the basics; Google Analytics is one of the best and most powerful tools for analyzing traffic on your website. You can get a lot of vital information on the visitors and the way they are using your website with Google Analytics.
How do you use Google Analytics?
First things first, you need to setup an account with Google Analytics. If you already have a Google account, you can simple use your Google username and password to sign in. If you don't have an account with Google, you will have to sign up.
You can now sign in to the Google Analytics account. Next step is to provide the URL of your website/blog and a few more details about the site, as well as contact information. In this way, a Google Analytics account will be created for you, and
Google will provide you with a block of code. This code will have to be inserted into all the web pages of your website (or the ones that you wish to be tracked); just before the end body tag . You don't have to be very technical minded to do this, just search for on the web page, paste the code just above the tag and save the web pages.
Upload the web pages to the server. That's it. You're done! You can now begin tracking how visitors are visiting your website
What information do you get?
1. Site Traffic
2. Compare site traffic over different date ranges
3. Visits: How many times the pages on your site were viewed
4. Page Views: How many pages on your site site were viewed
5. Pages per visit: How many pages on your site users visited on average,
6. Average time on site : How long each user spent on your site,
7. Bounce rate: Percentage of users left after visiting only one page, or percentage of new visits
8. Where your site visitors are coming from (country).
9. Find the traffic sources (e.g. search engines, emailed links etc)
10. Find the browsers your visitors use
etc.
The wealth of information that you can get amazed me when I first used it. Well, I shouldn't have been surprised, it's provided by the giant Google. It is indeed a very powerful tool when it comes to analyzing and tracking the visitors on your site. You're missing out a lot if you're not using it.
Start Using Google Analytics without delay.
